PROCEDURE FOR DNA , AFTER RECEIVING FORM FROM IPWHR. 1. Pull hair samples from above the withers on the mane . DO NOT CUT. 2. Pull the hair evenly and directly away from the neck so that the hair does not break . 3. Pull 15 to 25 hairs ; this number of roots will not leave a hole in the mane . 4. Place the hair in a straight line across the center area on the form which is reserved for hair samples . 5. Keep the hair together with the roots to the left as indicated on the form. 6. DO NOT CURL THE HAIR . Tape the center of the shafts with tape so that the hair stays in place . 7.PLEASE INDICATE BREED IF USING THE GENERIC FORM . 8. Fold the hair kit as you would a business letter ( it is just a sheet of 81/2 x 11 inch paper) ; do each sample one at a time and put form into an INDIVIDUAL ENVELOPE ; only one sample per envelope . 9.DO NOT INCLUDE HAIR FROM ANOTHER HORSE AS THAT WILL CONTAMINATE THE SAMPLE. 10. Results will be released to IPWHR registered horse owners only if payment for testing is also received with the Application for Registration. |
